The Frequency and Characteristics of Other Primary Headache Disorders in First-Visit Headache Patients in Korea: A Multicenter Study

Abstract
Background: Other primary headache disorders (OPH) are 4th subtype of primary headache disorder which include 10 definite diagnostic entities and 9 probable diagnostic entities. We aim to describe the details of each other
primary headache disorder among first-visit patients for headache.

Methods: We recruited 1,627 consecutive first-visit patients from 11 headache clinics in Korea. The classification of a Headache disorder was performed in accordance with of the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd Edition, beta version (ICHD-3¥â). The demographic features and headache characteristics of each types of OPH were described. Comparison between other subtypes of primary headache disorder, description about probable types of OPH were described.

Results: A total of 265 patients were diagnosed as OPH. Mean age of headache onset was 49.8¡¾14.3 years and 57.7% was women. Neuroimaging was done in 60.4% to exclude secondary headache disorders. One hundred seventy-nine primary stabbing headache, 26 new daily persistent headache, 20 primary exercise headache, 19 primary thunderclap headache, 10 primary headache associated with sexual activity, 8 primary cough headache, 1 cold-stimulus headache, 1 nummular headache, and 1 hypnic headache were diagnosed. Proportion of male was higher in primary exercise headache and primary headache associated with sexual activity. Proportion of probable diagnosis was higher in new daily persistent headache.

Conclusion: Diagnosis of OPH includes variable diagnostic entities and may be essential in daily clinical practice.
